SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDY AT U.S. UNIVERSITIES:
GLOBAL UNDERGRADUATE EXCHANGE PROGRAM
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program provides scholarships enabling outstanding undergraduate students to study at American two- and four-year educational institutions for one semester or one academic year.
For the academic year 2008-09, the program will place approximately 90 students from countries in Asia at U.S. colleges and universities. Up to 10 scholarships are available for Vietnamese students. Scholarships are for either one academic-year (approximately 10 months) or one semester (approximately five months). The length of the scholarship award will depend upon the student applicant’s interests and availability, as well as placement options and availability of funds. In addition, participants will be eligible for two to four weeks of intensive English language instruction in the United States prior to the start of the academic portion of their program.
All Global Undergraduate Program participants will be enrolled full-time in undergraduate course work chosen from the host institution’s existing curriculum to allow them ample opportunity for ongoing interaction with U.S. faculty and student peers, and for exposure to U.S. academic and classroom culture. To ensure that students succeed in their new academic environments, host institutions will offer tailored instruction on topics including academic research and writing, critical thinking, time management, note-taking, and studying for and taking tests. Participants will live on-campus with American peers.
Students will be provided with opportunities to participate in up to ten hours of community service activities per semester. Additionally, an internship component will be offered to all academic-year participants during the academic component of the program. Internships will be related to each participant’s field of study and/or career plans.
Participants in this program must return to Vietnam upon completion of the program, and may not stay on for degree study in the United States.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Scholarships will be granted to students who currently are enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Vietnam, and who have completed their first, second, or third year of undergraduate study.
Candidates should be highly motivated non-elite or less-privileged undergraduate students from colleges, universities and other institutions of higher education in Vietnam, who demonstrate leadership through academic work, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.
ELIGIBLE FIELDS OF STUDY
Scholarships will be available in all academic fields of study.
APPLICATION
An application package must include:
• application form (download here)
• three letters of reference
• official transcripts for undergraduate study (with notarized English translation)
• official results of high school leaving exam (with notarized English translation)
• a minimum TOEFL score report of 500.
• a photocopy of the photo/data info page of current Passport
Applications deadline: 5:00PM, January 8, 2008
Applications should be sent by postal mail or hand-delivered to the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi or the U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh

Purpose:
The purpose of the Kim Quang Buddhist Youth Scholarship is designed to provide a small financial reward and encouragement to students who demonstrate commitment to GÐPT, academic excellence, and a willingness to contribute to the betterment of their families, schools, and community. One of our goals at GÐPT is to instill the principle that happiness and social well-being of each individual, our families, and communities will depend upon the daily practice and application of the basic teaching of Buddha – compassion and wisdom; commitment to excellence; and service to others. Thus, we believe this scholarship will be served as an encouragement to continue these efforts and a small reward for the diligent practice of the Buddha’s teaching.
Mục Đích:
Học Bổng GĐPT Kim Quang nhằm khích lệ tinh thần và một chút tài chánh để khuyến khích những đoàn sinh hiểu biết những căn bản của GĐPT, và có lý tưởng phục vụ cho gia đình, học đường, và xã hội. Ở GĐPT, chúng tôi hiểu là hạnh phúc và an lạc của mỗi cá nhân, gia đình, và xã hội sẽ tùy thuộc vào nền tảng giáo lý căn bản của Đạo Phật - Từ bi, Trí tuệ - và cũng tùy thuộc vào những người có tinh thần phục vụ cho lợi ích nhân sinh. Những nguyên tắc trên là kim chỉ nam của tổ chức GĐPT; đã được hướng dẫn và dạy dỗ cho đoàn sinh ở mọi lứa tuổi. Vì vậy cho nên chúng tôi tin là học bổng này sẽ hổ trợ các em tiếp tục lý tưởng phục vụ trên.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Current high school senior graduating in June 2007
- Vietnamese heritage or at least 50% Asian heritage
- Currently an active member of GÐPT in the state of California
- Plan to attend a community college or university in Fall 2007
Điều Kiện:
- Đang là học sinh lớp 12 niên khóa 2006-2007 và sẽ tốt nghiệp bậc Trung Học vào tháng 6/2007
- Tối thiểu là 50% gốc Việt Nam hoặc Á Châu
- Đang thường xuyên sinh hoạt với GĐPT ở bang California.
- Sẽ ghi danh học cao đẳng hoặc đại học khóa mùa Thu 2007
